Frequently asked questions

How many places to eat gluten-free are there in Paris?

Find It Fit lists 54 gluten-free restaurants and cafés in Paris, within a directory of 1,926 places in the city (1,361 restaurants, 304 cafés and 261 food shops). This guide picks the 15 with the most verified information.

How do you know a place is gluten-free?

For someone with coeliac disease what matters is not «having a salad», it is cross-contact: a separate fryer and oil, clean surfaces and utensils, staff who know what it is. That is what FACE and Coeliac UK ask for. A menu scores if the place is advised or certified by a coeliac association, or appears in its public list of accredited venues, which I cross-check against Celíacs de Catalunya’s (35), if the whole place is gluten-free (35), if it names its cross-contact protocol (20), for each dish marked gluten-free one by one (3, up to 24), if it declares allergens per dish (8) and if it has gluten-free bread, pasta or beer (8). Lots of battered dishes with no mention of a separate fryer take points off. Every menu is read dish by dish with that criterion and the place gets a score from 0 to 100; in each entry you will see the score, the reason and the dishes that justify it. Never from the name: «healthy», «fit» or «light» do not count.

Do restaurants pay to be on this list?

No. No place pays to appear or for its position. The order comes from how much verified information we have on each one: analysed menu, own description, price worked out from the menu and whether the business has claimed its listing.

When is it updated?

The guide is regenerated every day from the Find It Fit database; the month in the title shows the latest review. Places that close or change their menu drop out or move on their own.

What does each place’s score mean?

It is what its menu offers people with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity, from 0 to 100, with the criterion above. It does not measure how tasty the food is or the service: it measures what is written on the menu. A 60 with many valid dishes and sugar-free drinks is a better starting point than a 20 with «one salad». And it is the order of this list: the first is the one with the most points today.
